Current version

It depends which Hostgator package you have – main pre-requisite for installing things like mongo and ruby is shell access. On a VPS this shouldn’t be a problem, but on a “shared web hosting” you may only get ftp access which would be bit of a problem – depends what package you have.

I would strongly recommend a VPS as the minimum entry point because then you will not have any restrictions on what you can or can’t install on the server.

Assuming that, I put some of my notes on http://browserthings.com to help you get started as the README, while accurate, is somehwat light on detail. I’m aiming to do a proper installation guide soon so the real developers don’t have to spend too much time on documentation.

Happy for any feedback to improve things
