What’s your question? Only ask questions about Shapado here

By: Asked from Mumbai, भारत गणराज्य India

Can I see how many votes questions have?

I would expect to see how many votes each question has in the list of questions. This is especially true if I sort by votes.

On the Blue Obelisk eXchange people also wondering why one can sort questions by votes if votes are no longer supported…

Oh, I didn’t realize votes had disappeared from questions completely. So, only answers have votes now?

I said this in a comment, but want to see what others think, so let me say it in an answer, where you can upvote and downvote.

In a Q/A site, good questions are even more important than good answers and should be rewarded. Thus, take away the downvotes if you wish, but let me upvote questions and give encouragement and karma points to the askers.

I agree whole heartidly with Jack and Patrick. It is true that there are no bad questions. It is also true that good questions are very important and should be rewarded. Please bring question voting back. At the very least, allow it to be a feature that can be turned on and by the administrator.

Personal Opinion note: The current buttons for voting are very small and when I first worked with the new shapado, I almost thought voting was gone all together because I didn’t see the microscopic triangles. I would recommend making them a bit larger like they were in shapado 3. Perhaps make them less ‘inline’. The text seems to wrap around them, why not set them apart—off to the side more—the way they were in previous versions. The reduced sized of the voting buttons and how they are integrated into the content seems to send the message that voting is less important in shapado 4.

I agree that the vote must be added as a feature that can be enabled by the administrator

Yes, voting on question is not possible anymore. We consider that there is no such thing as a bad question. What’s bad is not asking your question because of fear of being down voted. If a question is a pure spam/insulting, just flag it as spam.

If you like a question and would like to know the answer too, then hit the Follow button to get an alert when there’s answer available. You can also click on the Followed link in the side bar to get a list of all the questions you follow.

Last but not least, it is still possible to vote up and down on answers because it makes more sense here. There are good and bad/false answers that should be voted down or up. It’s just that the voting paradigm doesn’t work as well for questions.

I’ve also just added a way to sort questions by followers count. Thanks for your feedback!

, while I can see the idea that there are no bad questions (removing downvotes) surely there are good questions, for which you should keep the upvotes. Upvoting gives karma to the asker, and the asking of good questions should certainly be rewarded on a Q/A site.

Following is a different matter, as it generates email, and means that I continue to be interested in responses. But consider the bug reports on shapado — I’d like to be able to say “yes, this is an important bug” without having to follow the responses.

Thus, I think that removing votes on questions was a bad decision.

Now when you follow a question, the one who asked will get rewarded. If you see an important bug being reported, wouldn’t you like to know when it’s been fixed?

When you see an important bug being reported, wouldn’t you like to reward the reporter, even though you don’t have to follow because you’ll fix it? Reward and follow are different.

Patrick,

You (we) may consider there is no such thing as a bad question but there are certainly better questions than others. Voting on questions is a vital feature…

Voting on questions if vital for me, too. Why not make it optional then in the admin pages? Which makes me think: why can’t we vote on feature changes? Has the removal of the voting feature been subject to a public voting?

I recently created a feature request for voting on questions. I could not understand why it didn’t exist already. Now I see the issue, voting up (or down) questions has been removed. This, in my opinion, makes no sense. I want to view the questions that the most people think are important, as I am likely to as well. Plus, for my deployments I want users to be able to do so as well.

This feature should be re-enabled.
