What are some features one has and the other don’t? (Well, except obviously that Shapado is free & open source)

Shapado and StackExchange have more or less the same features except that Shapado has a few more:

  • i18n
  • widgets
  • latex support in editor
  • pre-made themes
  • automatic email notification per question
  • following users
  • getting email notifications when someone you follow asks something
  • auto-embed videos
  • a RESTful API
  • social features
  • private sites for free
  • a great architecture built to scale (mongodb cluster)
  • shapado.com also offer to host it for you on our cluster, so you don’t have to worry about managing a * server and concentrate on just building your community (takes a few second to create a site)
  • we are also much more affordable
  • the fact that we are free and open source means that lots of developers are helping us to improve this platform and build something amazing with lots of addons (think wordpress or drupal).

This is not a fair comparison. The one major feature StackExchange has and Shapado doesn’t, is “it works, rather flawlessly”. Shapado still has many bugs and usability issues (which I admit you’re fixing rather rapidly)

Stackexchange has its bugs too. If you find anything that doesn’t work flawlessly though, feel free to report it on http://shapado.com, we’d be glad to fix it ASAP :)
