Open source means the source code for the program is availble for free. Anyone can download it here.

It also means it can be freely modified and improved by all which is the difference between a traditional freeware (gratis but non modifiable) and free/open source (gratis, improvable and modifiable).

However, all this warm and friendly “free-ness” is governed by a very explicit set of rules, in the case of Shapado it’s the GNU Affero General Public License. If you want to take advantage of open source software, and the communities that support it then you have to play by the rules
